As the Phoenix Rises

 

There is something extremely inspirational about the phoenix legend.  Sometimes in life, we experience things that take the life from us.  Sometimes it's a loss of a loved one, sometimes it's a drastic life change among many other things.  Regardless, there is one certainty: we are forever changed.  In a real way it is like a part of ourselves have died, and in order to go forward, we need to rise to the challenge of recovering or risk losing ourselves completely.  

Second Life is much the same.  In the past 20 years we have seen so many changes and some were so profound and far reaching that none of us experience SL the same way as we used to.  Things like mesh had that kind of effect.  But on a more personal level, we have all met people that had an effect on our lives and then lost them in some way.  If we were close to them, like the phoenix, we need to rise out of the ashes of their loss.  

Sometimes, however, the loss is temporary and we get some measure of that old life back.  There is also a chance that our lives take a turn we did not expect and that going through that experience makes us stronger than we ever thought we could be.

The Spotlight

 Like many people in Second Life,  I find styling outfits fun.  When you create a really good one,  you just want to show it off and go places where people can see you.   Though I find my style has changed a great deal in Second Life, when I first started I loved formalwear and after blogging so many casual outfits recently I found myself yearning for  a really good formal outfit.  And POOF!  Like a virtual fairy godmother,  Iseult Mcpherson of I.M. Collection came through with this lovely set called Evelyn.

Ice Cream Stop In Hillvale

  A few months ago, I did an interview with Lauren Bentham  and discovered the Hillvale sim.  When I wanted to take a picture of the new Danny set from Ben's Beauty, I know at once that I wanted to revisit that sim to take a picture of the outfit there. Of course, part of the exploring lead me to this wonderful ice cream stand.    This is just one of the wonderful photographic spots on this sim so I have included the landmark below as well as the landmark for Ben's Beauty so that people can find the perfect summer outfit (such as the one above!).

Addicted to Light

When I first discovered Windlight settings in Second Life I was fascinated at how it would alter the look of the world around me.  With a click of a button, I could add fog, make it completely dark, make everything green or blue or red.   Then there is the affect it has on the look of the avatar - it can make clothing vibrant,  wash everything out, or make everything psychedelic.  The other thing it does, now that Materials has been introduced, is add effects to the outfits we wear.   Though all these things have been out for some time now, it is only now that I have started blogging regularly that I have come to a new appreciation of them.  It's useful when showing off outfits such as the Evalin set from Ben's Beauty. 

They still fascinate me and I can spend hours just clicking through them.    I wonder if there is a support group for that?  :)

The Roadtrip

As the long running science fiction series X-files  once stated:  "The truth is out there."  Sometimes, though the journey we take to find it takes us on hidden roads within our own minds rather than on the granite roads of the physical world.   Some routes we take often, the truths once gained lost along the way to other places - causing us to go back to revisit places we have already been.  Those routes can be visited and revisited so often that we know every landmark, every intersection, every blade of grass along the way.  At some point though,  we do learn the truth enough to see similar landmarks to know where certain roads lead and know to avoid them.  We already have the souvenir t-shirt and don't need another.  

Of course, if the t-shirt is as cute as this one from Ben's Beauty "Eika" set then it might be worth forgetting a few times (as you can see from the extensive HUD options show below).
